| REAT HORNED OWL PELLETS. These high quality pellets average 1-3/4 inches to 3-1/2 inches long. Unlike barn owl species that only hunt at night, great horned owls also hunt during the day. Great horned owl pellets are harder to locate, and availability can be seasonal. However, because of their more diverse hunting patterns, there is often more variation in their contents. Great horned owl pellets are thus often used as an additional pellet type, supplementing traditional owl pellet dissections that are, in most cases, from barn owls.
